The main purposes of VIHT are:

Research and Educational Center for Oral History provides an opportunity to pursue and achieve both purposes. Its main focus lies with the research project activities in oral history, intercultural communication, sociology, development of new technologies for oral history interviewing, processing and use of interviews.
Research and Educational Center for Oral History:
- Provides the implementation of the oral history methodology in university and school teaching practice.
- Collaborates on a contractual basis with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum (Republic of Poland), organises groups to participate in an annual educational seminar in Oswiecim and Krakow, coordinates the work of Russian volunteers in the museum every summer.
