LMU Munich is one of the largest universities in Germany and one of Europe's premier academic and research institutions. It features world-class resources in the history, languages, literatures and social sciences of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
It includes university departments such the Department of East and Southeast European History, the Institute of Slavic Philology and several other philologies including Albanian, Finno-Ugric, Modern Greek and Romance, and relevant teaching units at the Institute of Political Sciences and the Institute Sociology. The Elite Graduate Programme in East European Studies and the Graduate School of East and Southeast European Studies provide interdisciplinary MA and PhD training in the field. Finally, several relevant research institutes are attached to LMU, including the Collegium Carolinum and the Institute of German Culture and History of South Eastern Europe (IKGS).
